Where the name comes from
Lunático was the horse
Gardel was a racing man. In 1925, at the Tattersall in Palermo, he bought a horse that was recovering from an injury: five thousand pesos, two thousand down and the rest out of winnings. Its name was Lunático, born on 25 September 1922 at Haras Ojo de Agua.
It debuted on 26 April that year with Irineo Leguisamo up. It won ten of thirty-six starts and seventy-two thousand pesos in prizes. It was later retired to stud, and none of its offspring stood out.
The name suits the wine that waits: the one that needs time before it is ready.
